So…..(sustained drumroll)….. the WYGU internship started whoop whoop!!! and we’ve around 35 hopefuls using our platform to shake up their CV, and ours.
I’ve spoke to most of the guys and girls, and i’m well excited about their excitement. That’s a lot of excitement (they really are keen) -yesterday 9 of the them, and me and Alun went along to 1000 heads in Soho. 1000 heads are global leaders in making brands social, and WOM (that’s Word of Mouth btw).
We brainstormed/blue skyed/crowd sourced away for ideas for the interns to stuff into their campaigns, and some nuggets emerged; i.e get teachers from former schools and colleges to mentor, then their students will sign up, get on the university radio station to name but a few…
Then Molly Flatt dropped in; a human WOM whirlwind (not VOM). She gave us her 4 principles of successful social media campaigns in her flamboyant style and impressed everyone with her conviction and enthusiasm (by the way they are Authenticity, DISRUPT!!, Gaming, and Observational learning).
Observational learning stuck in my mind. There was once an eastern European artist that got three people to stand in line outside a random boarded up institute. Within half an hour the queue was massive, with nobody knowing why. When one of the queueers (plural of queue anybody??) asked someone at the beginning of the queue they responded ‘oh you know just waiting for the thing to open in half an hour’ -or something similarly vague.
Sure as sherbet the queue continued to grow! for nothing…
The moral of this story is that if you create intrigue, people will gawp and respond predictably.
Bear that in mind interns, and if anything else catches your attention, catch ours.
Good luck!!!
