Hello! This is part three of our ‘What is WYGU?’ series. Today we’re going to discuss the hows, wheres and whys of setting up a blog on the WYGU website. We’ll also throw around a bit of creative inspiration and I will introduce you to my personal WYGUblog. Let’s begin!
There are loads of good reasons to keep a blog. Some people use it as a place to develop ideas, others a place to store thoughts, and others to share news. On WYGU, your blog is an ideal place to record your career journey, celebrate achievements you are proud of and reflect over your past experiences. It also acts as a collection of thoughts for others to read through – whether they’re looking to go into the industry you currently work in, searching for others from their past colleges/institutions or just trying to find a bit of inspiration. Finally, blogs are a fantastic place to start discussions – maybe you’ve got an idea you’ve been thinking up for a while, and would like to get a few other viewpoints on it. The possibilities really are endless.
By now you must be ready and raring to jump into the WYGU blogging World. Luckily, setting your own blog up couldn’t be easier. Start off by having a look at your profile page – you’ll see a little toolbar near the top of the page, just like this one:
Click on the ‘blog’ tag and you’ll be faced with this starting page. As always, have a quick read through the blue box to remind you of the functions and features of the blog. Then…we’re ready to go!
Clicking ‘Add a Blog’ (which is located on the left hand-side, right below your profile picture) brings you to the Create Blog page. This is where you enter the main details for your blog, including its Title, Description and any Careers/Institutions/Companies you might write about. Click ‘Add Blog’ and you’re done! It’s as easy as that.
Now it’s time to start writing! Clicking on ‘New Post’ underneath your profile picture (you can also click on settings to edit your blog information whenever you like) takes you to the New Post page. Type away, click post and you’re done!
It’s up to you how often you write new posts – I like to sit down and get some of my thoughts out at least once a week. It’s a fantastic way to open up my career journey to my contacts on WYGU – letting people know how things are going for me personally as well as what I’ve noticed about the industry as a whole.
