WYGU Career Matching

Hello and welcome to the second post in the ‘What is WYGU?’ series. This time we’re having a look at the nifty Career Matching tool, which can help you find out the types of careers and roles that suit you. Think of it as a personality test with a helpful twist! Getting started with the WYGU Career Matching tool is easy, and just requires you to have signed up to the site.

After you sign in and have been directed to your profile page, click on the ‘Update’ button on the left hand side underneath your profile photo.

A pop-up will open showing you all the features you can customize on your profile – for the Career Matching tool we’re interested in the ‘Skill Profile’ section. There are five sections for you to complete, starting with Sensory.

(Make sure you fill in the rest of your profile at a later date so everyone can find out more about you!)

Clicking on the sensory link directs you to the first page of the quiz (…I can feel your excitement bubbling already) Have a quick read through the instructions at the top – these will help answer any questions you may have. Each statement listed below has a range of answers you can select, from ‘Strongly Agree’ to ‘Strongly Disagree’ (and ‘I don’t know’ if you…well, don’t know.) Answer every question as truthfully as possible – you’ll only get a real match if you show your true colours!

Once you’ve completed the section (mine looked like a massive zig-zag going backward and forward across the page) click ‘Save & Next’.

The second section focuses on your Physical Skills, including stamina, co-ordination and agility. This page will be really useful for you if you’re looking to go into an active career which will be demanding in these areas. No point being sat behind a desk if you’ve got the strength and physique of a Body Builder! (More on that here…)

Further sections include Interpersonal – how you work with others and Cognitive – the things that you can do.

Once you’ve finished the test, you are taken back through your answers to make sure you’ve not missed any (I did…opps!) and are happy with your selections. After clicking ‘Save & Next’ one final time, another little pop-up box will appear with a link to your results.

The results page shows you the top 80 careers that match how you’ve presented your personality through the quiz. My results were very impressive!

My Number 1&2 career suggestions were to become a Music or English teacher – which is eerie as that was my ambition throughout Secondary School! A little bit further down (No. 12) was ‘Youth Leader’ – fulfilled already as I volunteered as a Youth Leader for two years during college. No. 22 (PR Officer) confirmed that what I’m doing at the moment – I’m interning at a Marketing and PR company – is right on track, and No. 79 (DJ)…well, who knows what the future holds!

WYGU Career Matching is a fantastic tool to use if you’re not sure what career path to take or you want to get out of a job that bores you, but don’t know what to try next. Sign up to WYGU and give it a go!
